The unit considered in this module is composed of a superheater feeding the turbine, a turbine-generator set, a condenser, and peripheral components and instrumentation. The unit is supplied with slightly wet, pressurized steam from an external source, and the steam is superheated in the unit before being passed through the turbine. Electrical load in the form of light bulbs is imposed in 100 W increments on the generator, while the turbine's speed is maintained constant by a mechanical governor and with the appropriate adjustment of a speed control valve. In this lab, measurements of electrical load, mass flow, pressure, and temperature are taken to evaluate the work, heat transfer and efficiency of such a system.
