Even larger than Tyrannosaurus (opposite), this species is
named Carcharodontosaurus saharicus, since its original
fossils, found in 1927, come from the Sahara Desert. In
1996, larger and more complete remains were discovered
in the Tegana Formation region of K'Sar-es-Souk Province,
south of Taouz, Morocco. These specimens reveal a very
large predator indeed, but from a slightly different meat-
eater group, being a closer cousin of the North American,
Late Jurassic carnivore Allosaurus
