Given the general interest in the decisional aspects of the design literature, it sounds promising to apply a decisional perspective to the FBS framework as well to better analyse and carefully comprehend it. In particular, some reflections and observations have been made by reviewing the FBS model compared with the previous contributions by Simon (1960).
This paper starts with background on the FBS model, and according to the scope of the present work,
in Section 2, the needs and requirements analyses in the literature are described. Then, in Section 3, the revised model is described with details about the integrated representation framework and its transformation processes. The decisional perspective is addressed in Section 3. The fourth section clarifies the proposed model by means of a simplified, yet comprehensive, example related to a post-processing activity of the information collected in the earliest stages of the development of an innovative ‘green’ washing machine. Eventually, the conclusions that can be drawn by the current results are presented.
