The second step is to identify the members of the KM team and focal
points that will support the development of KM and serve as advocates of
knowledge management. To help identify these people, one should look around
the organization for activities that might already be related to KM. In addition,
there might already be small groups or communities that are sharing knowledge
in some way either formally or informally. It is important to make connections
with these people and recruit them as possible focal points or members of the
KM team. Finally, the KM team should report to as high in the management as
possible in order to get top management support. And recruiting well-respected,
influential people within the organization is always a good idea.
