Plastic film mulching (PFM) has been widely used in the cultivation of spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), corn (Zea mays L.), cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.), vegetables and fruits since the 1990s in the semi-arid Loess Plateau, Northwest China due to its benefits for agricultural production (Li et al., 1999).
