Pineapple leaves were cleaned by water and transferred into the entrance channel of the extraction machine. After the fibers were separated from fresh leaves by mechanic blades, they were rinsed with a lot of water, and washed thoroughly in 2 % detergent solution at the temperature of 70 oC, followed by rinsing again with water. The clean fibers were allowed to dry at room temperature for 2-3 h before putting in a hot air oven at the temperature of 60oC overnight. The dried pineapple leaf fibers with the length of about 70-80 cm were obtained. The PALF was manually chopped into short pieces of 1-3 mm in length, and stored in moisture-prevented bag, prior to compounding with PLA.
