The present paper considers the opportunity to further
benefit from the advantages of high pressure Direct
Injection (DI) in a crank case scavenged engine
with symmetric port timing changing the traditional spark ignition to Jet Ignition (JI) for throttle-less load
control. The work is done considering the use of
Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) rather than gasoline.
The long term goal is to design a two stroke
CNG engine for passenger car applications. The
present paper reports on the preliminary results obtained
for the DI JI combustion system.
