has seen a reconsideration of the nature of feedbac
k and the importance of considering the technical i
nfrastructure as
impacting this [Dix, 1995]. The variable nature of
the Internet and the effects on World Wide Web inte
raction is
perhaps the most readily identifiable manifestation
of this effect [BCSHCI, 1997]. A natural design te
nsion exists
between replicated application architectures that m
aximise feedback and centralised applications that
prioritise
feedthrough across the application users [Ramduny a
nd Dix, 1997]. The need to consider the overall fun
ctionality of
the application and to design structures that provi
de appropriate access to different levels of functi
onality is
amplified in the case of mobile applications where
the infrastructure may vary considerably as the app
lication is in
use.
