ACS Social Studies Department: Co-Curricular Activities
Our Elementary school activities include field trips, guest speakers, museum visits, hands-on learning experiences and research projects that enable children to develop concepts from direct personal experience. Special celebrations, performances and service learning experiences enrich the curriculum.
Middle School students actively participate in special events such as United Nations Day, the Geography Bowl, the 6th grade Walk in Historic Athens and Wellness Week; each opportunity allows students to collectively examine issues of community concern. At the secondary level, students may become involved in Student Government, Forensics, Peace Day, and a variety of co-curricular activities related to Social Studies.
Model United Nations simulations offer Academy students the challenge of dealing with issues of international concern currently on the UN agenda. Individual students have distinguished themselves at the international level, as well as locally through participation in MUN.
