Family firm proprietors adopt a cautious approach to growth so they can pursue growth concurrently with the goal of maintaining family ownership and control in the long term. Non-family firms expand more rapidly to attract outside resources, increase the compensation of managers with little or no ownership interest in the firm and cover their inefficiencies.
