The relative humidity effect measured in this study helps understand the influence of environmental condition on the transport and storage of VOCs in the porous building materials.
The findings are particularly useful in formulating physical models that describe diffusion and partition coefficients as functions of local environmental conditions in general, which is important for modeling the impact of emission sources and sinks
on indoor air quality becausematerials are subject to awide range of local environmental conditions in reality.
The approach used in the present study may be applied to other indoor materials to
establish the physical models for various indoor materials, considering the coupling as well as similarity between the VOC and moisture transport.
