The Cleveland Cavaliers appear to be looking to load up in advance of another deep playoff run.
ESPN's Brian Windhorst reports that the Cavaliers are showing interest in Atlanta Hawks sharpshooter Kyle Korver and a pair of New Orleans Pelicans in center Omer Asik and Tyreke Evans.
Windhorst adds that a deal involving Korver is unlikely, despite the Hawks' potential willingness to restructure their aging roster.
Of the three, Korver would be the most suitable target for the Cavaliers. The 34-year-old is no longer leading the NBA in 3-point percentage as he had over the past two seasons, but remains one of the league's deadliest shooters and could bring a modicum of stability to the Cavaliers' assortment of inconsistent wings behind LeBron James.
Korver is averaging 9.3 points and 3.5 rebounds while shooting 42.6 percent from the field and 38.3 percent from deep. He's owed $5.7 million this season and $5.2 million for 2016-17.
As for the Pelicans players, it's a question of redundancy. Evans is a ball-dominant guard who might have a hard time co-existing when sharing the rock is already a concern with three hungry mouths to feed in Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love, and LeBron James.
Asik, on the other hand, has quite possibly the worst contract in the league, and the Cavaliers have a multitude of better options in the frontcourt.
Windhorst reported last week that the Cavaliers are also showing interest in Washington Wizards forward Jared Dudley.
