In this study, a novel biorefinery concept has been proposed which is readily implemented to any Palm oil industry. Currently we are developing dark fermentation process to produce biohydrogen from palm oil mill effluent and empty fruit bunch (EFB) hydrolyzate using mixed sludge in our laboratory [16], [17] and [18]. This biohydrogen plant can be well integrated with biosuccinic acid production plant using OPF juice as feedstock if the carbon dioxide evolved as a byproduct from biohydrogen production plant using palm oil mill effluent can be channeled to the biosuccinic acid reactor. It is well known that dissolved CO2 concentration in the fermentation broth can strongly regulate the metabolic flux of carbon and the activity of phospho-enolpyruvate (PEP) carboxykinase in Actinobacillus succinogenes during biosynthesis of succinic acid
