Results
There were 10 Caucasian preterm infants
randomly assigned to each group
(N = 20). This lack of diversity reflects
the population of the NICU during this
study. Approximately50%of the parental
population approached to allow their
infant to participate in this study declined
because they did not want anything
done to their already ill baby. The
control group had 3 girls and 7 boys; the
experimental group had 6 girls and 4
boys. Table 1 summarizes the demographic
characteristics of the control
and experimental groups.
