Culture tries to control the expression of sexuality in different ways. Every culture will usually have its own understanding and definition of what it means to be a sexually ideal person. It would be interesting to explore such concepts and discover the areas of agreement and disaccord among them. Sometimes there may be conflicting understanding from one culture to the other. Even within the same culture, different groups or different individuals may vastly differ in their attitudes, values and beliefs. This has implications for formation as we are dealing with candidates coming from diverse cultures.
As Christians, for our fundamental values on sexuality we need to base ourselves on Sacred Scripture and the teachings of the Church. But the teachings of the Church are not something that is a "once and for all" reality. Rather, because the Spirit is alive in our world, the Word of God keeps challenging us to an ever deeper understanding of the mystery of sexuality and to keep interpreting it continuously in the context of changing times.
