Ever year in the United States both children and adults celebrate Halloween. That is to say, the night of halloween, October 31, is when young people can say up late, disguise themselves in costumes and go " trick or treating " children go from house to house asking for a treat such as candy, fruit or money. If an adult does not give a treat, the children can play a trick. They are allowed to do such things as soaping windows,writting on door with chalk, or turning over trash - cans. Ghosts,skeletons, and witches have become symbols of halloween. This dates back to ancient times when the Celts believed that on October 31, the day before their New Year, the souls of the dead were allowed to return to their hames. Today, both childdren and adults dress up as one of these evil spirits and participate in costume parties. They also a harvest festival and Americans honor the harvest by putting cornstalks on doors, eating nuts, aufumn fruits, and apple or pumpkin pies.
