Pre-Arrival Tips: What to bring
Many host companies issue pay checks every two weeks. Therefore, it will take time for you to receive your first paycheck. As such it’s essential that you bring additional funds (money) with you when you travel to the U.S. Be sure you have enough money for your housing deposit and first month’s rent, as well as $1,000.00 available to you.
credit cards 2For safety and security measures, it is advisable whenever possible, to bring at least a portion of your $1,000.00 in traveler's checks as they can be replaced if they are lost or stolen. It is also recommended that you take a credit card with you. This card can be used in emergency situations.
Tip: Review your MyIntrax account for other information on what types of clothing you may be required to have for your uniform.
Remember! Bring all of your documentation with you. You must bring your original signed DS-2019 form with you! You will need to show this document to apply for your Social Security Card, provide to your Host Company/employer and will be asked to present your original DS-2019 when you pass through U.S. Customs and Border Protection (Immigration). Failure to bring your DS-2019 will result in additional fees and likely delay your ability to begin working as scheduled.
