Animals in CAFOs eat a mix of corn, soy, and protein that encourages maximum growth in minimum time. The faster they grow and mature, the more quickly their owners can sell them as food. Unfortunately, thousands of animals are often confined in a single barn or warehouse, and keeping so many animals in those conditions creates numerous health hazards. One such hazard is that diseases can spread quickly among the confined animals.
