The Philippines had 33 million employed workers in 2007, with “Older
workers” (OWs) at 55 years and above accounting for about 14 % of
employment. Occupational safety and health (OSH) is a basic human and
workers right under Philippines Constitution; however, OWs do not (yet) enjoy
special protection on safety and health under the law unlike other vulnerable
segments of the population like youth, women, or persons with disabilities.
Generally, however, data on OSH of older workers are very limited; there is
little information on programs in the public and private sectors that address
OSH-related concerns of OWs.
