These exceptions are partly due
to failure to distinguish between oxidative and
fermentative metabolism of carbohydrates. In
Bergey's manual of determinative bacteriology, 6th
edition (Breed et al. 1948), several species of
fermenters are clasified in the genus Pseudomonas,
the type species of which is a typical
glucose oxidizer.
