Several limitations of the study are acknowledged, primarily related to generalizing the results beyond the sample. Because participants were recruited from Black churches in two urban areas, the sample was relatively homogenous with regard to geography and religious affiliation. The results may not be representative of African American
women residing in rural areas or those who are not members of Black churches. Information about income level was not collected and the findings cannot be interpreted in relation to the economic status of the participants. In addition, the women
who volunteered for this nonprobability sample may have a personal interest in cardiovascular disease and their views may not be representative of the wider population of church-going African American women
