oneworld member airlines offer seven of the 10 best airline lounges in the world, according to specialist airline industry design website thedesignair.net in conjunction with Airways magazine.
Their reviewers judge Qantas’ First Class lounge at its Sydney hub as the best of the best worldwide: “Qantas seems to have successfully managed to develop a winning formula. The original flagship lounge, designed by its Creative Director Marc Newson, has really shown itself to be the ultimate template to follow.”
Qantas’ new lounge at Hong Kong shares second place with Finnair’s facility at its Helsinki hub.
Of the Australian’s new ROOM at the Asian hub, Designair says: “The lounge has a distinct and contemporary eclectic design style, paying its respects to Hong Kong’s unique culture and varied design aesthetic. Situated in one of the best airports in the world, this Qantas lounge lives up to its host’s reputation’”
Of the Nordic airline’s facility, Designair comments: Finnair has always paved its way as a designer airline, and the carrier’s latest lounge matches the new in-flight experience, offering passengers a true example of Scandinavian design excellence.”
Cathay Pacific’s lounges at its Hong Kong hub were ranked fourth best globally. Designair describes them as “effortlessly designed… where every staff member has evoked feelings of sheer delight every time we have visited”.
Japan Airlines’ new First Class facility at Tokyo Haneda - “the height of modernity and luxury”.- makes it to sixth position, with Qatar Airways’ lounges at its new Doha Hamad International hub and British Airways’ Concorde Lounge at its London Heathrow Terminal 5 home are judged joint eighth best globallly.
