A 15-year-old school football player from Chiang Mai province died after falling from a train in Muang district of Phitsanulok province shortly after midnight, police said on Monday.
Pol Lt Col Sombat Srimora, an invesigator of Wang Namkhu police station, said the accident occurred about 12.05am when the Bangkok - Chiang Mai train No.109 was crossing over a steel bridge near Ban Nong Ya in tambon Wang Nam Khu.
The body of the youth, identified later as Jakrapat Chaiwongsa, a member of the Vachiralai School football team in Chiang Mai, was found on the road under the railway bridge.
It was thought Jakrapat fell from the train, hit the bridge railing and then tumbled onto the road five metres below.
He was part of a group of 27 people, including teachers, returning to Chiang Mai after playing a football match in Bangkok under the name Chiang Mai FC.
Police were investigating.
