In EPS models the search for information takes place in the second stage of the decision-making process and plays a very important role. It is supposed to be predominantly external instead of internal. Search takes place internally when previous experiences and knowledge are used as the basis for planning a visit to a destination. The perceived adequacy of (the results of the) internal search determines whether external search will take place. If the contents of memory prove insufficient for making a trip decision, the tourist will direct attention and effort to external search. The search for information from external sources involves information obtained from four basic sources: (1) neutral (e.g., automobile clubs, tourist offices, travel guides), (2) commercial (e.g., salespeople, travel agents, brochures), (3) social (e.g., information from relatives, friends, and other social networks) and (4) printed or electronic information derived from mass media sources (e.g., newspapers, magazines, radio, television and the Internet)
