Yokobori et al. (2007) reported the existence of six short nucleotide motifs in the LNCRs of cephalopod mt genomes, whose arrangement depends on the lineage of Cephalopoda. We confirmed that the Bathyteuthis mt genome includes all six motifs in its LNCRs and that the arrangement and location of the detected motifs in the Bathyteuthismt genome are similar to those of other oegopsids. The four sepiids (S. apama, S. latimanus, S. lycidas and S. pharaonis) also include all six motifs in their mt genomes with the same arrangement as that of the other two sepiids (S. esculeneta and S. officinalis) reported to date. Only motifs 1, 2, and 6 were clearly identified in the LNCR from the Semirossia mt genome. Due to accumulated mutations, the remaining three motifs in the LNCR of the Semirossia mt genome could not be assigned with complete accuracy ( Fig. 5).
