7) Understanding Gender through Modern Pop Culture
One will notice that gender becomes constructed through advertisements. These advertisements assimulate roles deemed as male and female. One will notice that women within these ads are represented in domestic housewife roles and are displayed in a more sexualized manner. Men within these ads are portrayed to assimilate more powerful aggressive roles. This becomes a prime example of how gender norms and roles become assimilated with advertisements. These advertisements geared toward men and women provide examples of how gender becomes constructed within media entities.
Women within these ads are exposed to conform to gender roles (domestic household practises) and norms. These norms reinforce the notion that women are expected to maintain feminine beauty while still conforming to generalized roles. Men within these ads are depicted to be strong powerful figures that are reinforced to maintain a masculine nature.
