Think carefully about handing out edible rewards during the school day. If you want to give to your students something to snack on during your class, that’s fine. But make sure they finish eating before leaving your room. Remember these students are heading off to another class where food may not be allowed---nor should the teacher have to deal with the distraction of crinkling paper, popping bubbles, and so on. If you are distributing something that will take longer to eat or drink, consider giving the student an I.O.U. that be cashed in at lunchtime or after school.
