7. STEP 3. SELECT NOSE ADIUS
Selacting the nose radius can be important because of tool strength, surface finish, or perhaps, the forming of a fillet or radius on the work. To determine the nose radius according to strength requirements, use the nomograph in Figure F-34. Consder that the feed rate, depth of cut, and work piece condition determine strength requirements, since a larger nose radius makes a strong tool.
Large radii are strongest and can cause chatter between tool and work piece. For example, the dashed line on the figure indicates that a 1/8 –in. radius would be required for turning with a feed rate of .015 in. and to obtain a 100-microinch finish, a ¼ -in. radius would be required with a .020-in.feed
