4. Summary
A series of Au-MWNT nanocomposites were prepared by the
intrinsic electrostatic interaction of counter-charged stabilizers for
GNP and MWNT. DMAP-terminated GNPs were positively charged
in an aqueous solution. On the contrary, SDS, PSS and PVP form
the negatively charged outer-shells of isolated MWNT chains in
aqueous dispersions of MWNTs. UV/vis spectra showed the characteristic
absorption band (max. ∼525 nm) related to the surface
plasmon of gold nanoparticle in Au-MWNT nanocomposite regardless
of dispersion agent (SDS, PSS, or PVP) for MWNTs. The
absorption band was slightly broadened, depending on dispersion
agent. TEM images and XPS analysis demonstrated that the preparation
of Au-MWNT nanocompsite was considerably dependent
on the dispersion agent of MWNT, and GNP deposition on MWNT
chains was efficiently prepared in the order of PVP > PSS > SDS.
