IntroductionThere is significant interest in creating novel materials throughphysical, rather than chemical, methods. In this respect, taking arapidly crystallizing material that is generally used in the crystallinestate, one may find advantages if the material can be made vitreousby avoiding crystallization. To this end, we have begun a series ofworks to attempt to make energetic materials that are vitreous innature with the intent that the defect nature of the glassy materialmay provide improved properties, such as improved handling andstability or enhanced combustion properties.
