His Majesty has always believed that farmers and fishermen-agriculturalists-are the real backbone of the county, and that their welfare directly affects the nation in fundamental ways. In order to strengthen the agricultural sector and improve the lives of the farmers, His Majesty began the first of his Royal Projects. The Royal Projects nowadays cover a broad spectrum, from rainmaking to irrigation and water conservation; flood prevention and salinity; fish breeding; supplementary protein husbandry; rice, cattle and buffalo 'banks'; farmers' marketing cooperatives, and a host of others. His Majesty's ingenious and deceptively simple plans to alleviate flooding and traffic bottlenecks in the capital city have resulted in great improvements once implemented.
