Dried manure was weighed and placed on the hills in a
proportion of 1000 g per hill for cow manure, vermi-compost
and commercial organic fertilizer and 250 g per hill for chicken
manure (based on weight of dry matter). Each fertilizer was
analyzed to determine its chemical composition (Table 3). The
amount of nutrients supplied per plant is given in Table 4.
Control plots were not fertilized with organic compost ormanure, but all treatments received 30 g per plant of Gafsa
natural phosphate.
In a greenhouse environment, two ‘Sweet Million’ cherry
tomato seeds (F1 hybrid of indeterminate growth-habit, cycle of
110–120 days, with fruits of red coloring) were sown in 200 mL
disposable plastic cups with first moistened Plantimax HT
substrate on June 26th, 2002. After seed germination, the
seedlings were thinned and those having four or five definite
leaves, were selected and transplanted on August 16th, 2002 to
the hills (30 cm 30 cm 30 cm) in rows with plant spacing
of 1 m 0.5 m. Seven days later, replanting was necessary in
order to replace those which had died, were damaged by insects
or had wilted.
