The incidence of the appearance of glottic bam- boo nodules is not clear, but 80% to 100% of pa- tients with autoimmune disorders with hoarseness have demonstrated such lesions.'"^ Hosako et aP reported that immunoglobulin G-positive cells were detected in such lesions on immunohistochemical examination. Teitel et aP suggested that the laryngeal inflammation in SLE is likely due to the deposition of immune complexes with activation of complements in the tissues. Hosako-Naito et al'^ also proposed that the mucosal wave of the vocal fold during phonation might contribute to the for- mation of the transverse linear lesions at the midpor- tion of the vocal folds.
