Grey junglefowll isvendemic to southern penindular india is listed as least concern and under schedule II BY CITES.grey or sonnerat's junglefowl is distributed throughout southern peninsular india.very few studies have been conducted on the grey junglefowl and these mainly pertain to abundance and habitat use.most of the population of GJ within protected areas in india are not monitored.sathyanarayana has reported the need for resesrch on the current status and distribution and babitat requirements of this species.GJ has a declining trend in population due to hunting for meat,egg depredation by local communities.this study was undertaken to estimate the abundance of GJ in the southern western ghats.
