In 1982, Florence Hernandez-Ramos was engaged in a career as a paralegal for the state attorney general's office. A native of Lamar, Colorado, Hernandez-Ramos had graduated from the University of Colorado in Boulder and had moved, to Denver in 1968. Morales was impressed with Hernandez-Ramos's professionalism and her involvement in cultural activities in the Denver area. Consequently, Morales encour¬aged Hernandez-Ramos to apply for the CEO position at the new station. Shortly thereafter, Hernandez-Ramos had a new job and spent her first day in Washington, D.C., learning the ins and outs of public radio.
