A mother cougar being tracked by conservation officers and dogs was located yesterday and reunited with her three kittens. The family of cats will now be relocated at least 100 kilometers from the city limits, said conservation officer Gary Van Spengen.
The officers went on the hunt for the cat after several sightings in the city in the past week. During one incident, the cougar killed a dog at a residence. The search began Wednesday after the six-month-old kittens were picked up.
Officer Van Spengen said they were worried they wouldn't be able to find the mother cat, but got lucky when the tracking dogs caught a fresh scent. The cat was treed and tranquillized.
