of the cycle was observed. On the other hand, at R = 0.80, even the
shortest feeding time (tf = 6 d) was sufficient throughout the three
cycles of the best set of runs (7–9) to get satisfactory Xm, and the
feeding time was not determinant to maintain it along the cultivations.
The highest average Xm value (2130±198mgL−1), obtained
with runs 7–9 using R = 0.80 and 6 d≤tf ≤14 d,was higher than that
obtained by Carvalho et al. [23] using NH4Cl (1439mgL−1), likely
because this nitrogen source was subject to larger loss of ammonia
by offgassing. It was also much higher than that (1145mg L−1)
