Impulsive style and unintegrated cognition. The impulsive mode of cognition is characterized by an insufficiency of active integrative processes. Purposeful concentration, the capacity for abstraction and generalization, as well as reflectiveness in general all seem to be impaired. Thinking and planning appear to be short-circuited by the immediate translation of whims and urges into undelayed action. As a consequence, impulsive behavior is speedy, abrupt or discontinuous, and unplanned.
