broilers in each test group, while after arrived to the slaughterhouse, blood samples were collected after birds were knife slaughter. Blood samples were taken into two test tubes, one containing anticoagulant to be used for determining Heterophil:lymphocyte (H:L) ratio, while the other without anticoagulant to separate serum and was stored in -20°C until biochemical analyses were undertaken. Additionally, for each of these distance categories, the number of broilers transported and the number of broilers that died during transport was ascertained, and the percentage of transport deaths of the total number of broilers transported was calculated. The effect the transport distance on the mortality of broilers shipped to processing plants was recorded. The effect of the season of the year on the mortality of broilers shipped to processing plants and the changes in biochemical parameters were specific in their dependence on the travel distance and the ambient temperature under which the broilers were transported.
