In light of the key role of employees’ openness to change in success of change
initiatives (Appelbaum et al., 2008), it is in the best interest of leaders to understand the

predictors of openness to change. To this end, interactionist perspective and traitactivation
theory provide a theoretical framework for developing a model of antecedents
of openness to change, and for exploring the individual differences and the contextual
factors, and their interaction as antecedents of employees’ openness to change.
