NHS services are encouraged to involve patients in service design and delivery. Patients’ perspectives on health services provide fresh insight and highlight areas that may have been overlooked. The patient satisfaction survey showed the elements of the service with which women were happy and where improvements could be made. The individual comments made by women completing the survey provided a more personalised view of the service, not all of them specifically about clinical nurse specialists . All comments were fed back to the breast screening services and recommendations were made. Comments are also raised at quality assurance visits and followed up formally through recommendations.

All women attending a breast screening assessment clinic should be informed that they will have the opportunity to see a clinical nurse specialists ,if available. This information should be provided either in the recall to assessment letter or on a
notice on display at the assessment centre.
