Rice and fish have traditionally been the staple for the Central Thais. Foreign food cultures such as the use of a variety of meats and spices has also been adopted. The four major categories of main dishes are —chilly dip eaten with fresh vegetables, currys, sour soup and spicy salad, plain soup and sauteed vegetables. There are several types of desserts such as those mixed with coconut milk and sugar steamed, bahed or preserved.
