Thongchai McIntyre or "Bird Thongchai" is best known for his string (Thai pop) and luk thung music. He has also acted in numerous films, on television, musicals, and in commercials.
In 1958, Thongchai McIntyre was born in one of the slums in Bangkok to parents James and Udom McIntyre. His birth-name was Albert McIntyre with the nickname of "Bird." Born as a 9th child with 9 siblings in slum did not give him a head start, thus his childhood was filled with attempts to find incomes to his family. As a child, sometimes he taught English to other children in the slum in exchange for 5 to 10 baht. Raised in a music lover family, Bird loves to sing and dance. School stage was the first place that his talent shined.[3] His father died when Bird was still a child.[4][5] He started working as a bank officer. While working there, he had a chance to meet the famous Thai TV producer "Kai Varayuth" who recognised Bird's talent. Bird played in his first TV series with Kai while still working at the bank. The role revealed his talent. His most memorable role was that of Captain Kobori in Koo Kam, a tragic love story about a Japanese soldier (played by Bird) and a local Thai girl during the World War II where he starred in both a TV series and reprised his role in the 1996 film adaptation, Sunset at Chaophraya.
