Fever
A fever is usually a warning sign that something is wrong. The rise in body temperature can be related to ear infection, a cold, and many other illnesses. When an otherwise healthy child has a fever, it can be scary but does not always mean danger.
Talk to your host parents about how they’d like you to handle the child’s fever. Ask them to show you how to use and clean the thermometers.

You should not dismiss a child just because there is no fever. Nor should you only look at the temperature as a last step to see if it’s very serious. A child may be sick or unwell but with no temperature. On the other hand, a child may need urgent care even if the temperature is not very high from your perspective.
Being sick or well is not just about the number you see on a thermometer. Fever can be a useful signal but that is not the whole picture. Judgment is so important when it comes to a child’s health. Always use common sense and look at the child’s overall wellness.
