It was another injury problem that had caused the Welsh international to miss the start of this season. As a result, he’s completed 90 minutes just once, while Rodgers’ final in charge was only his third appearance of 2015/16.
However, even when fit, Allen is far from an automatic pick and the fact that he’s not been able to force his way back in with Jordan Henderson still out injured is an indicator he may need to look elsewhere for more regular football.
Having impressed in the Premier League when Swansea were first promoted in 2011, Allen certainly has the talent to add quality and depth to sides like Stoke, Southampton and Leicester. Should any go ahead and firm up their interest it may be just the opportunity he needs to kickstart his career.
