My first struggle is the language. Where I first taught is in a rural area where people never had any chance to be with English speakers and living my first three months was really a difficult one.
I struggled with the weather because it was too hot. Thailand has a hot season all year round.
Food is another thing that challenged me. Everything is spicy. Even if you tell them not to serve your food with chilli, it will still be spicy because to them, if it’s not spicy-it’s not tasty.
The people I worked with are not used of working under pressure. If I am not smiling because I am fully concentrated on finishing a task, they think that I am too serious or stressed and that affects them. I’m trying to explain to them (even until now) that when I’m not smiling, it doesn’t mean that I am sick, stressed, or whatever negative emotion they assume I am into.
