4. Conclusions
A total of 10 high-strength steel (HSA 800) box, cruciform, and H-shaped stub columns were tested to evaluate the compressive and P–M interaction strength; 7 stub columns of ordinary steel (SM490)were also tested for comparison purposes. With the plate-edge restraints and plate slenderness as the key variables, the primary objective was to evaluate if the AISC local buckling provisions are also applicable for 800 MPa high-strength steel. Together with the observations made from residual stress measurements and a comparison with test results by others, the following conclusions can be made.
