In contrast, most paper-and-pencil tests that are used for data gathering in evaluation employ the closed type of problems. In such problem, all mathematical conditions needed for solution are completely furnished, and it is sufficient for students to retrieve their learned knowledge and skills and apply the appropriate ones to find the solution by using the given problem conditions as a guide. Therefore, the evaluation cannot go beyond checking students’ achievement in terms of their knowledge, skills, or capabilities of identifying and applying concepts, principles, or laws.
