The number of neighbours known to be adopting Q-GAP
had a positive and but non-significant impact. It was expected
that farmers who observed many neighbours adopting Q-GAP
would be more likely to adopt; it is very common that
community members would decide to do similar management
as each may feel that they do not want to be sidelined (social
cohesion). For example, the social cohesion factorwas found to
be one of the key variables of the local community adoption of
conservation agriculture in Laos (Lestrelin et al., 2012).
However, contrary to our expectations, the number of
neighbours known to be adopting Q-GAP did not have a
