Conclusion
We found that the installed exhaust ventilation
system resulted in a significant reduction of workers’
exposure to xylene vapor in a pesticide factory in
Northern Iran where we found elevated short-term
exposure to xylene among workers. These findings
may be useful to administrators in similar factories in
Iran and elsewhere, providing guidance for the
evaluation and control of xylene vapors in occupational
environments. Furthermore, this is the first
study of xylene exposure in Iran. National occupational
hygiene organizations can use these results to
create regulations for the control of xylene vapor in
the pesticide industry.
